Cultural Ambition

Keir Griffiths is one of the first cohort of trainees across Wales who has been accepted for the Cultural Ambition project – a project which supports young people to develop workplace skills in the heritage sector. At the moment the 23 year old trainee has a placement at the National Library of Wales which contributes to the programme led by Creative & Cultural Skills and Welsh Government through the HLF Skills for the Future grant and recently, Keir has been contributing to the People’s Collection Wales website, by adding content which celebrates the rich history of Wales and its people.

The Story of the Forest

The Story of the Forest is one of the Unlocking our Sound Heritage (HLF) projects within the National Library of Wales. Recently, ten MA Archive Administration and MSc Digital Curation students from Aberystwyth University, led by Dr Sarah Higgins, had the opportunity to digitize and to preserve personal stories told by those who have lived and worked in and around the forest – from Anglesey in the north to the Dyfi Valley in mid Wales and the Tywi forest in the south-west.

The Angel Shark Project: Wales needs your help!

Angelsharks were once common, gliding over the seabeds of the East Atlantic and Mediterranean. This amazing species has disappeared from much of its range, and is now Critically Endangered. An important population remains in Wales, and they need your help to safeguard it.

Each year the Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative Committee invites all schools in Wales to enter heritage projects in a nationwide competition. Over the years People’s Collection Wales have supported the competition by sponsoring some of the digital awards.

This year Ysgol Penboyr and Ysgol Maesydderwen won the award for Digital Excellence, Congratulations to them both!

Europeana Migration Collection Days 6th-7th July

In partnership with People’s Collection Wales and Tiger Bay Tales, along with migration museums across Europe, Europeana is inviting people young and old to be part of its project to build an online collection dedicated to migration.

10 years of People's Collection Wales

This year marks the 10th year since People’s Collection Wales was first established. Since 2008 the programme has come on in leaps and bounds, from the launch of the website back in 2010 to a site that now has over 100,000 fascinating photographs, documents, audio and video recordings helping to create a complete picture of Wales’s history and heritage.
