‘Cynefin – Our Welcome’

Cynefin - Our Welcome is a community film education project, funded by Ffilm Cymru Wales and supported by Michael Sheen and the Josef Herman Art Foundation.

The Welfare Ystradgynlais’ community arts team worked with Ysgol Maesydderwen, Ysgol Dyffryn Y Glowyr and Syrian families who have settled in Ystradgynlais, to tell stories of refugees past and present. Award-winning animation company Winding Snake Productions worked with the community to produce the two animated films that share stories about how people fleeing conflict have been made welcome in Ystradgynlais.

The animated films, co-created by schools in Ystradgynlais, were awarded the People’s Collection Wales Digital Excellence Award in the Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative Competition in 2018.

This inspiring project has been made into a case study teaching resource which includes the two films; Cynefin and Uncle Ahmad's Canaries, plus a 'making of' video that tells you more about the project and shows you how the films were made.

Dinosaur Detectives
Two well-loved Amgueddfa Cymru teaching resources have recently been published on People’s Collection Wales. The ‘Dinosaur Detectives’ and ‘Urban Meadow’ resources each have an accompanying People's Collection Wales collection that teachers can use in the classroom. The Collections contains images from the teaching resource, plus extra content to enhance the learning experience for pupils.

U-Boat Project
Wales and the Welsh people experienced the Great War at sea in numerous ways. Bringing together historians, archaeologists, marine scientists, museums and community groups across Wales, the U-Boat Project, 1914-18: Commemorating the War at Sea tells their stories.

The U-Boat Project 1914-18 is a collaboration between the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, Bangor University and the Nautical Archaeology Society and provides unprecedented access to the remains of vessels on the seabed which are part of Wales’s heritage. The research undertaken by the partners uncovers the previously untold stories about the Great War in Welsh waters.

Take a look a look at their collections in their gallery on our website.
