Rhyl Pavilion, Pier and Promenade

A collection of postards depiting Rhyl Pavilion, Pier and Promenade in the Victorian and Edwardian eras as well as the early decades of the twentieth century. The ornate Rhyl Pavillion with it's five domes had been a landmark in the town for many decades, but was demolised in 1974. Rhyl Pier, officially known as Victoria Pier, was opened in 1867 and was the first of it's kind in north Wales, stretching over half a mile into the sea. Over the years it was subjected to damage from ships and rough weather, and had to be closed on several occasions. It was reopened after being reduced in length in 1930, but was eventually closed for good in the sixties and demolished in 1973.
