Family Archives From All Across the Globe

A collection of items from family archives that document the history ancestors who emigrated to Patagonia and Canada, who took their skills as miners to Ghana and Sumatra and who worked in the London Welsh milk trade. Dating roughly from the 1880s to the 1940s these photographs not only tell stories of relatives who left Wales in search of work, they also document the histories of those who came to Wales in order to secure a better life for their families, from Poland and Italy, Jamaica and Barbados. Also included in the collection is an oral history interview (‘Our Fathers – In the Same Boat’) where various residents from Barry share recollections about the native homes of their fathers and the multiple nationalities of people that arrived to work in the docks from around the world.
