John Andrews Royal Navy

This is a collection of material that documents the career in the Royal Navy of the late John Harold Andrews of Aberystwyth, Ceredigion. John was born in Birkenhead, The Wirral, Merseyside, just before the outbreak of World War two. His father joined the Army and was posted overseas to join the fight against the imperialist Japanese empire. Very sadly, John lost his brother and sisters in a Luftwaffe bomb raid. John survived the war and inspired by a great Uncle who served in the Navy in World War one, John joined the Royal Navy in August 1956. He went on to serve for over 22 years, mainly at sea. He served on a variety of vessels, including Aircraft carriers an Submarines. The material in this collection was gathered from his daughter after John's passing in 2024 and from an interview conducted by Age Cymry Dyfed a few years before he passed away.
