Agriculture in the Vale

Prior to the industrialisation of agriculture in the early twentieth century with the coming of tractors and engines, much of the work on farms was done by horses. As well as pulling carts, another notable role horses traditionally held was in ploughing fields. This was physically demanding but important work for the horses pulling the plough and the farmers guiding it.
