King Square, Barry
King Square is a town square in Barry, located in the centre of the town, on Holton Road. With the opening of the town hall at the site in 1908, the square was originally known as 'Council Square'. In June 1910, it was proposed that it should be renamed King Edward Square in honour of the late King Edward VII. However, with the proclamation ceremony of King George V also being held there, it took on the name of 'King Square'. Over the years, King Square has been the site of many occasions, such as parades and community events. After a redesign in the early 2000s, the site today hosts Barry Council Office and Library, and Art Central Gallery. As a central point in the town, King Square is also the location of Barry's annual Christmas tree.
