Barry: Places of Worship in the Area
There are many places of worship in Barry town and its surrounding villages, both formerly and in use, of many different denominations. As the area experienced major population growth in the late nineteenth century due to construction of Barry Docks, there was an exponential growth in places of worship. In 1919, the larger twentieth-century All Saints Church replaced the medieval St Nicholas Church as the parish church of Barry.
In Barry itself, this included:
St Nicholas Church (Church in Wales; built 1254, rebuilt 1876, home to the 6th Barry Sea Scouts since 1950s).
The Parish Church of All Saints (Church in Wales; built 1907–08 due to the increasing population in Barry, designated as Barry Parish Church in 1919).
The Church of Saint Mary the Blessed Virgin (Church in Wales; built in 1903–05, originally for Tractarian Worship (High Mass)).
St Helen's (Catholic Church; a school opened on the site in 1892, the church was built 1906–07).
Windsor Road Congregational Church (United Reformed Church; built 1890, rebuilt 1904)

St Barruc's Church (a place of worship since St Baruc's burial in 700 AD, later rebuilt in the fourteenth century, remaining in use until around the sixteenth century).

Barry Priory (built in 1894 by the Order of St Paul).
Bethel Baptist Church (originally built as Bethel English Baptist Church in 1893, and rebuilt in 1900s).
