Richard Thomas

This interviewee talks of going to a neighbour's house to watch television and lists the programmes he enjoyed. He discusses how more channel choices has led to family members watching separately. Whilst talking of the Coronation he speaks of the valleys people's liking for the royal family and that the Coronation had given them a rare excuse to celebrate during a bleak period following the war. Whilst referring to Prince Charles' Investiture in 1969 he refers again to Wales' support of the monarchy. He discusses Aberfan and the valleys' landscape noting how television broadcasts of the event had brought the village financial support. The Miners' Strike is also mentioned, the fighting, the faults of Scargill and the government, and the humour when the cameras were not rolling. He refers to the decline of society in the south Wales valleys following the closure of the coal mines.
