Megan Davies

The interviewee's family bought a television for the Coronation, and her mother would invite people over to watch some things, especially royal events. She enjoys watching opera on television, and says that television has introduced opera to ordinary people. She remembers the grandness of the Coronation, and enjoyed seeing the architecture, and they felt that they themselves were taking part. She remembers Tryweryn being discussed in chapel and some things on the radio but did not see anything on television. She says that the Investiture was a proud day for Wales, and had watched it at home on a colour television. The whole family had watched and recognised some people who were taking part and so knew what to expect. She had not followed the Devolution debates very carefully. Though she does not speak Welsh herself she enjoys watching Welsh programmes and feels that the channel is important. She does not support strikes in general but she had sympathy for the miners during the strike. Though it was a British strike the Welsh element was very obvious too.
