Description

Construction workers with a section of pipe, part of the impressive late Victorian aqueduct built to carry fresh water by gravity alone from the Elan Valley reservoirs to Birmingham, over 70 miles to the east. This photograph, taken in February 1897, shows part of the siphon used to cross the River Wye near Rhayader.
