Description

An early stage in the construction of one of the series of dams in the Elan Valley built by the Victorians to supply fresh water to Birmingham. This photograph of the site of Careg-ddu dam conveys the impressive scale of the undertaking and also the relatively primitive and hazardous methods used for much of the work.
