Description

Ceunant tollgate, which was on the Guilsfield road to the south of Welshpool, pictured around 1880. The toll charges in 1834 for Montgomeryshire turnpikes were one shilling per animal drawing a carriage and eight pence per animal each for wagons. A ridden horse or mule cost two pence and a donkey was charged one penny.
