Description

Opened on August 1st, 1902. The Queen's Palace Theatre, later the Queen's Theatre was a four storey building housing a large theatre (which was visited by first class touring companies of the day), a ballroom that held 2,000 couples, a restaurant, tearooms, shopping arcade with fernery and fountain, a tropical roof garden, zoo and waxworks. In the basement there was "A presentation of Venice" - an underground canal with gondolas. The theatre and ballroom were completely destroyed by fire on November 24th, 1907.
