Description
The impressive climax to a succession of state rooms in Tredegar House, the Gilt Room was used as a drawing room, where guests could relax after dinner, before retiring to their bedrooms. Lit by hundreds of candles, it must have been an impressive sight, and left no doubt as to the substantial wealth of the Morgan family.
The walls are panelled in pine and painted to resemble walnut. The paintings around the room are also painted directly onto the panelling. The ceiling is the only remaining 17th century ceiling on the ground floor, and it has been restored to its original glory.
