Description

John Griffith Jones is very grateful to his parents for all their letters. He apologises for not having written for a while but they have been travelling from Nicholasville since the 11th of November, arriving at Louisville on the 15th. They started by boat from Louisville on the 19th, down the Ohio River, and arrived in Memphis at mid-day on the 27th. The boat got stuck on the sand bars several times along the way.
They have still not received their pay and they do not know how long they will be staying here. They have set up camp among thick woods.
JGJ says that he preferred marching 18 miles in a day to the boat.
They have not heard from Fredrick Jones since leaving Nicholasville and JGJ is worried about him.
