Description

A black and white photograph of a painting of Barry Island from the Ship Hotel in 1880. The old Marine Hotel was erected in 1858 by William Crawshay, its interior being mainly constructed from the remains of shipwrecks. The whitewashed ruin in the foreground was the Customs House belonging to the port of Barry.
