Description

In January 2019 I began to help out at the restoration of the Ynysangharad Locks in Pontypridd. As a volunteer I have been learning not only more about the history of the Glamorganshire Canal but also some new skills used in its renovation and maintenance.
The Pontypridd Canal Conservation Group is always looking for new volunteers. Take a look at their website http://www.pontypriddcanalconservation.com/. The work can be hard at times but very rewarding.
The images here show various activities of the group between April and July 2019.
Images from top:
1. Early restoration of the western staircase
2. Section of the original canal bed in lock 32
3/4. Restoration of the western staircase
5. View of lock 32 and locks cottage
6. Demolition of the small dam (rail plate uncovered)
7. Head of lock 31 showing stone work of former upper basin
