Description

Canadian Pacific Liner, 'The Empress of Britain' 42,350 tons. Fastest liner to cross to Canada and first liner to cruise during the winter when St Lawrence was impassable due to ice. Became a troop ship during the Second World War. Hit by five German bombs in 1940 when returning from the Middle East off the West coast of Ireland and then torpedoed. No troops on board at the time and all crew saved.
