Description

A photograph of Police Constable 133 James Emrys Williams of the Glamorgan Constabulary. The photo was taken in 1925 when he was on duty at Glamorgan Assize Court, Cardiff. The single chevron on his sleeve indicates that at that time, his rank was that of Constable 2nd Class.
Also shown is a Glamorgan Constabulary 'cross belt', the type of which is worn by Emrys and were specifically used on special occasions such as Assize Court duty.
The helmet is one which was issued to Emrys some years later in 1933. During his service he is known to have served in the 'E' or Barry Dock Division and the 'A' or Aberdare Division. It is known that he attained at least the rank of Acting Sergeant.
Born in 1901 and originally from Ceredigion. He started his police career in Barry Dock and later moved to the Mountain Ash area, where he lived upon retirement.
All items are owned by myself, and form part of the extensive Ross Mather Police Memorabilia of Wales Collection.
