Description

A melton wool 'Great-coat' which was issued to James Emrys Williams. Emrys was born in Carmarthenshire in 1901.

He joined the Glamorgan Constabulary in 1923 as Constable number 133. This heavy overcoat was part of the uniform and equipment that was issued to him.

Following a period of 13 weeks training, he was posted to Barry Dock Police Station.

Promoted some years later to the rank of Sergeant, the chevrons and Prince of Wales feathers badges were added to the sleeves.

Promotion saw him transferred to Mountain Ash Police Station, which was in the 'A' or Aberdare Division.

The helmet is one that was also issued to Emrys. It has a small sticker on the inside showing his name and rank.

Part of the Ross Mather Police Memorabilia of Wales Collection.
