Description

The first match to be played on the new 18-hole Golf Course at Llandrindod Wells was between Llandrindod and Newtown on 21 May 1906. Llandrindod won by 41 1/2 matches to 31 1/2 .
The official opening of the course was on 18 May 1907 when two lots of singles matches were played. One between the local professional George Humble and the then current Open Champion James Braid (winner of the Open in 1901, 1905, 1906, 1908 and 1910). The other between Harry Vardon (Open winner in 1896, 1898, 1899, 1903, 1911 & 1914) and J. H. Taylor (Open champion in 1894, 1895, 1900, 1909 and 1913).
The course at Llandrindod had been designed by the renowned golfer Harry Vardon.
