This photo shows casting development work being carried out in the Rheola Foundry at the end of its life in August 1981. The three white coated personnel are from the British Alumnium Research & Development team based at Chalfont Park in Buckinghamshire. After the merger of British Aluminium and Alcan UK in December 1982 the Chalfont Park Labs were closed and some key personnel moved to the Alcan International Laboratories in Banbury, Oxfordhire who had similar facilities. The bearded researcher is wiring up a chart recoder to record metal temperatures during the DC( direct chill)semi-continuous casting process.
