Description

'Y Fesen' the school magazine of Maesydderwen County School, Ystradgynlais, in its Summer 1946 issue, reported that ‘With the return to peace-time conditions the Athletic Club has been re-formed’. In July 1946 the first competition involving all the Breconshire and Radnorshire County Schools was held in Brecon, under the auspices of the South Wales Secondary Schools’ Athletic Association. The staff members shown in the photograph are the Headmaster, Mr W. Seth Owen (front row, far left), Mr E. M. James (front row, far right) and Mr George Jones (back row, far right). The magazine also reported that these two teachers had recently returned from war service. The names of the pupils in the team are listed on back of the photograph, in Mr Jones's handwriting.
