Description

Letter from D. S. Davies, New York, to the Rev. Michael D. Jones, 12 February 1874. He is getting ready to leave for Patagonia with a number of other Welsh-American emigrants on the ship 'Electric Spark'. The voyage would soon end in disaster, however, as the ship was shipwrecked off the coast of Brazil. Although the precious cargo of agricultural machinery was lost, the passengers succeeded in reaching Buenos Aires, where they took refuge for a short while in the Emigrants House, before being taken on the ship 'Irene' to Patagonia.
