Description

Capten David Richards, a mining engineer from Harlech, Merionethshire, had travelled to South America at the invitation of a group of settlers (Edwin C. Roberts among them) who had discovered gold in the foothills of the Andes. In this letter, Richards informs the Rev. Michael D. Jones that he arrived in Buenos Aires on 12 April and provides detailed information regarding the 'gold fever' in Patagonia during the early 1890s. He stresses the importance of setting up a Welsh company to work the goldfields. He also writes in detail about the land situation in Patagonia.
