Description

A large and original photograph which is mounted on a card backing. It is believed to date c.1912.

During this time and for many years previously, the 'fire brigade' was provided by the police. Up until the end of the second world war, they were 'one' organisation. It is not known who those are that are dressed in civilian clothing.

The men, known as Fire Constables were assigned to the fire brigade side of the force, but were fully sworn Constables. Written in pencil on the back is 'Grangetown, Cardiff'.

It is uncommon to find a photograph relating specifically to the fire Constables.

The Ross Mather Police Memorabilia of Wales Collection.
