Description

This photo shows my Mother, May Hewlett, attending what she always called Barry Summer School. I'm not sure of the correct name. The year is 1938. I'm not sure of the exact location but I'll guess it's Barry Training College. May was born and raised in Briton Ferry.
May wrote: "Barry Summer School, Class of 38. I’m on the second row, second from the right; and I’m wearing my Leeds College blazer.
I used to love attending these Summer Schools, where we would do drama, writing, reading, music and games....and lots of talking. It was always so much fun. We were young and full of hope and thought anything was possible."
