Llanbister is a parish and small village, situated on the eastern side of the valley of the River Ithon (in Welsh, Ieithon), between Llandrindod Wells and Newtown. Llanbister is famous for the historic parish church of St Cynllo, which was first featured on Images of Wales on 4th August 1998.

The main street running through the village. Local traffic is very light, because the main A483 Llandrindod Wells to Newtown road by-passes the village.

The general stores and post office is the village's only shop.
