Monument commemorating the death in 1860 of Jane, 75 year old wife of Rev John Jones of Llangattock. The inscription states that "The freehold land on which this chapel is erected, also the burial ground was given to the Baptists of this town by the said Jane Jones".
Note 2: Dated 1840. Plain classical 2-storey chapel, coursed bull-nosed rubble with slate roof and wide boarded eaves. 3-window front, open pedimented gable with inscribed tablet and 2-window side elevations. 16-pane sash glazing throughout, with Gothick intersecting glazing bars to semi-circular heads of 1st floor windows. Note 3: Bethabara Baptist Chapel at the lower end of Bridge Street was built in 1840 and still has a strong congregation. Baptism still takes place in the River Usk by the side of the chapel. [Source: BBC website (accessed 26 Sep 2016)]
