Description

This picture shows the gates at the entrance to the steelworks. It was at these gates the guard of honour was formed to receive the Royal family. It is also through these gates that men and boys marched through on their way to war, many never to return again. These gates are still standing along with their gatehouses at the rear of the development known as 'Lysaght Village' If you drive past you can still see them standing. Through the gates, can be seen the W R Lysaght Institute. This picture was donated to Lysaght by Orb Steelworks when it closed its doors in 2020. It has been made possible to share this picture with thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
