Description

Pont Wen over the Dyfi, Aberangell 1932. The original bridge was built by the Walton family in the 1860s and named Walton’s bridge. No photographs exist of this weak timber crossing that was regularly damaged by floods and subjected to weight restrictions. After years of wrangling the County Council finally built a concrete bridge in 1926 which was given the name Pont Wen,(White Bridge) because of the colour of the material.. It was destroyed during the great flood of 1963 and the existing replacement opened some two years later. From the collection of Gwyndaf Breese
