COUNTY OF
MONMOUTH,
TO WIT.

THE Information of Catherine Charles
of the parish of Bassaleg
in the County of Monmouth, single woman made on her
Oath before me the undersigned, one of her Majesty's Justices of the Peace
acting in and for the said County, this thirteenth day of
November in the year 1839, who saith That on the
night of Sunday the third of
November Inst. I was at my
Father's House Henry Charles
at the Welsh Oak in the parish
of Bassaleg we had returned
from Chapel about 1/2 p 9 o`clock
at night shortly after three
Men came in and asked for
a Pint of Beer about half
an hour afterwards a large body
of Men armed with Guns Swords
Pikes Mandrills & Sticks
came into the House and
took possession of it There were
hundreds on the outside who
could not get in. I saw
a Man known as Furman
or Ferrand the Quack doctor
of Blackwood also Thomas
Havard a Butcher of Blackwood
and Edmund Edmunds
Son of William Edmunds
of the Greyhound in the
parish of Bedwelltye they
were amongst the Men
very busy The Men

said they were going to Newport
and would be owners of the Town
. The Men remained
at my Fathers House till 6 or 7 in
the morning and then went away
towards Newport About 10 Oclock
I saw a great many Men runnng
back from Newport saying
there were a number Shot
