To Prove that, the witness was in the stable at the
Westgate Inn looking upon Stow Hill, saw the mob
coming down and a man with a wooden leg among
them armed with a gun,Jack the Fifer was along
side with pistol and pike, both stopped and let
most of the Mob pass, witness stopped in the stable
till they began to fire, then got thro' (through) a Garden
into Commercial Street where he saw the same man
with a wooden leg and a Gun in his hand
and a jim Crow hat on, believes
prisoner is the man but won't swear to him ----------------------CALL

To Prove that witness saw a great number of persons going
out of Newport on the 4 Novr (November) between 9 and 10.
o'clock A.M. some of them were armed - saw among
the Mob, a man with a wooden leg, he had a Gun
in one hand, and a sword or stick in the other
believes it was a stick - he was dressed in a dirty
coloured fustian or flannel, believes it was a frock
coat. he had on a round crowned Hat, a jim crow.
he was coming down Commercial Street towards the
Cardiff Road in the direction from Westgate - Wit[nes]s
would know him again if he were in the same
dress. He was about 40. he was dirty looking
about 5 feet high the prisoner Turner is like him
should not like to swear to him punctually -
believe he is the man has no doubt of it - he
has not worn the same dress - Wit[nes]s was 2 or 3
yards off opposite the New Church--------------------------CALL

To Prove that he saw the Mob going down Stow Hill
and in front of the Westgate saw among them a
one legged man with a Gun in one hand and
a stick in the other - witness heard the Mob fire
saw the wooden legged man ramming down his
Gun, he appeared to be loading - witness was
then about 1 yard from him - he was in a
dark fustian coat and had a Jim Crow hat
