Joshua Thomas was the/n/ called and examined
by Mr Kelly -
I am a Carpenter - Have lived at Newport 26 years- I
remember the 4th November last - I saw persons going down Stow
Hill, at the bottom of Charles Street - I was then standing by the Parrot.
This was the corner house of Commercial Street and Charles Street -
the further corner - Not one of the mob came round Charles Street
or in any other direction up Commercial Street, so as to get to the Inn
in any other way - After seeing these people pass the bottom of Charles
Street, I made my way up Commercial Street to the Westgate - I can't
say with certainty whether any of the party went round so as to
get to the back of the Westgate - None of these armed men reached
the Westgate by way of Commercial Street
Cross examined by the Solicitor General
My attention was first attracted by the men passing down
Stow Hill - I had come from the bridge at Newport to the Parrot,
which is the corner house of Charles Street - I then went back along
Commercial Street towards theWestgate as far as Corn Street - I
remained there from 20 to 25 minutes and then I went home.
