Job Tovey is a Collier and has lived in the neighbourhood of the Blackwood
near 12 years and in his present Dwelling house in the Blackwood
two Years - He inrolled himself a Chartist about 12 months ago at a
Lodge held at the Coach and Horses in the Blackwood - There was a
large Chartists Meeting at the Blackwood on Whitmonday at which Frost
and Jones attended and addressed the Meeting on the subject of the
Charter-Tovey was there and then for the first time saw Frost as he
believes - He afterwards on the 12 August last attended another large
Chartists Meeting at Dukes Town where he saw Price, Frost, Jones and
Z. Williams- Price was in the Chair and Frost and Jones both
addressed the Meeting urging those present to use all their endeavours
to obtain the Charter- About a month previous to the 3rd November
there was a large meeting in the Blackwood which Frost addressed
- he said he was come to give an Account of his Conduct as their
Delegate to the Convention and to give up his Delegateship upon which
a voice from the Crowd said we will re-appoint you and Frost then
proceeded to ask them if their County Member Mr Williams had given
them any account of his conduct- He then told them there would
soon be an Election and asked them all to accompany him to Monmouth
where he would offer himself and where they would have an Election
in the old way of Universal Suffrage - He desired them to organize
themselves into bodies of ten with a Man to look over every ten
and by that means they would have a Chartist Parliament as
the Chartists in the North of England and Scotland were going to
adopt that plan- On Thursday the 31 October Tovey saw Williams
and Jones at the Coach and Horses- On Friday the 1st November
about one o'clock in the afternoon he went to the Coach and Horses
where he saw a great many persons come who went up stairs to the
Lodge room- He saw Frost and Williams amongst them - He did not
go up stairs as he was told the Meeting was a Meeting of Delegates
from the several Chartist Lodges - He thinks there must have been
fifty present - He left the Coach and Horses before the Meeting broke up
and went home- About 6 o'clock in the afternoon he went there again -
The Meeting was then broken up - He was in the Tap room and
Frost came out of the Parlour and asked him if he could have a
Bed at his House - He Tovey said he might but the Accommodations
