John Gayton I am a Basket Maker and
a Special Constable for the Borough
of Newport -on Wednesday the
20th of November instant I was on
duty- In Thomas Street opposite
the Kings Head- and from inform[atio]n
I had previously received that
Alexander had saved himself and
that he was not afraid of being
taken that he had written home to
Bristol to get the whole of his Books
and papers burnt - I apprehended
him _ He said he would not go
with me - unless I could produce
a Warrant - I persisted in taking
him into Custody - I saw
him in the Chair at the Chartist
