I put them together and gave
them to Mr Phelps they have
not been out of my possession
since till I gave them to Mr
Phelps.

remembers Monday 4th Novr Inst
I was in Newport about
11 O'clock after the Riots & firing
I saw Etheridge there were
young Rogers and Wm Walter
Williams__ We saw Prisoner
at his own House. I began
to Enquire about the Riots-
& how they got on I had heard
the firing at my own House
at Caerleon. I asked him if
the Chartists were not beaten
He said no they were not beaten
they were waiting for the rest
of their companions for another
party that was coming down
Their determination was to burn
Newport that night. There was
a lot gone up to Lewis Edwards s
to pull Lewis Edwards's House
down. I had seen a great many
men waiting by an old quarry
Nr[?]the Malpas Road when
Etheridge said they were coming
