A black and white photograph of Chief Rabbi Immanuel Jakobovits with children of a Hebrew school [presumably Swansea] taken in May 1976.

Immanuel Jakobovits (pictured) was born on 8 February 1921 in Konigsberg, Germany. In 1967, he was given the position of Chief Rabbi of Britain. He would lead Britain’s Jewish community for twenty-four years and in 1988 he became the first rabbi in history to serve the House of Lords. Jakobovits died on 31 October 1999 at 78 years old.
