Description

Adelaide Martin served as a Flight Mechanic in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during World War Two. Interviewed in May 2021, Adelaide recounted her childhood in Northamptonshire, joining the WAAF's, training as a Flight Mechanic in Hednesford and then a 3yr posting to Little Rissington in Gloucestershire. There she formed friendships which lasted a life-time, a bond with the young aircrew who took off in the aircraft she and her other WAAFs had repaired, serviced and maintained for them, and during a leave break back home in 1943 met her future husband, John Martin, at a dance. Adelaide and John remain married some 78yrs after they first met by chance at the dance and have lived in Ceredigion for many years.
