Description

Wedding photograph of Jean Hunt (Troedyrhiw) and William Thomas Lewis (Abercanaid) at St. Johns Baptist church, Treodyrhiw 2nd April 1955. Also Jean’s 20th birthday.

Also in the photo also are Samuel James Hunt, bridesmaids were Cynthia Lewis (right of picture) and Sylvia Hunt (Jean’s sister). Best man was William’s uncle David Lewis. They were married for over 60 years. Jean passed away in 2016 and William in 2019.

Note given by Julie Powell, Jean and William’s daughter:
“For the wedding breakfast dads family (Idris Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Gethin Cottage, Abercanaid) killed a pig they had reared. I have been told that this sow was a nasty thing and they had to walk the pig from Abercanaid to the slaughter house in Caedraw in preparation for the wedding breakfast . Apparently the pig must have known where it was going to meet its demise and it sat down in the middle of the road in Caedraw and wouldn't move holding all the traffic up and causing a right spectacle. The pig was eventually dragged off the road and they managed to get it to the slaughter house. The ham apparently was beautiful and the guests said it was the best tasting ham they had ever eaten!”
