Description

Holway Grange Caverns

The cavern was excavated in the 19th century and taken over by the Ministry of Defence at the beginning of the Second World War. Eleven thousand tons of bombs were stored there and it was reputed to have had Barnes Wallis's Bouncing Bomb of Dambusters fame in store. It later became a military museum in the 1920's, which housed over forty military vehicles and a large collection of medals.  It closed around 1989.

Part of Brian Taylor's collection
