Description

Clara Ellen Maria Davies, 1862-1951, one of seven children whose father, Vaughan Palmer Davies, lived and farmed on Skomer Island for 30 years, from 1862 to 1892.

Clara was born on Skomer in 1862 and at the time of departure from the island in 1892, with the exception of her time at finishing school, she had lived on Skomer her whole life.
After leaving the island, she lived as a companion to her aunt Elizabeth Annie Robinson in Romford and, fourteen years after leaving Skomer, at the age of 44, she married Percy Bacon, a stained-glass designer.

Clara was a gifted photographer, whose images provide a very personal insight into life on Skomer during the Victorian era.
