Description

Images of a heifer being transported by boat from the mainland to Skomer Island, landing at North Haven and 'acclimatising' near the farm.

"Cattle had been transported to Skomer since prehistoric times. The first photographic record is from 1889, but it is the photographs taken c.1910 that provide a much cleaer idea of the effort involed. Geoffrey Codd's book Skomer Memories contains some tremendous photographs of cattle being loaded into a small boat in the 1940s."
Skomer Island, Mike Alexander, 2021
