Description

Under the ten-year economy plan announced by British Steel in 1970, Ebbw Vale steelworks was to undergo some drastic changes, with several elements of the plant being closed down and others seeing development. This film shows some of the developments at the works and also the closure of the hot strip mill on 29 September 1977 which had processed over 29 million tonnes during its lifetime. The fifth of the six mills was taken from the works and placed on the site as a memorial.
