Description

By the end of the nineteenth century, Llandeilo had its fair share of performance venues, such as the chapels, the Civic Hall (or Drill Hall / Victoria Hall), Market Hall, and St Teilo's Church. These hosted countless concerts, fundraisers, and eisteddfodau, which drew audiences from far and wide. This is a programme of a Concert and Play held at Llandeilo, in aid of Swansea Hospital, on Wednesday 4 June 1930 at 7.30. The President was Councillor I. Martin Davies, Llandeilo; the Conductor was Mr Alcwyn Jones ATS; and the Accompanist was Mr R. J. Evans, Midland Bank. The comedy drama, titled ‘John and Mary’, written by Derwenydd Morgan, was performed on Thursday 5 June at 7.30 by Cross Inn drama company. The play was directed by Mr W. A. Jones; the Chairman of the evening was W. Lewis Esq, Canton, Llandeilo. There are a number of interesting advertisements of Llandeilo businesses included within the programme.
