Description

As part of the Valleys Re-told Project a group of artists took part in an activity designed to capture the South Wales Valleys through their own eyes. Here Angela has been inspired by her own location. The image depicts 'Our Quarryman's Cottage' in mono-tone with just one letter box red as a focal point. The steep sides of the valley with the flow of the distant fields and limestone quarry results in very little sky in the composition. The various shades of grey were built up using many layers, with drying time between each inking up. The process used was the reduction method , whereby each different shade of grey requires a new layer of lino to be removed. This process requires a lot of planning and is very time consuming to achieve the desired effects.
