Contact print photograph taken from behind Madeline Street, Pontygwaith. St Mary Magdalene Church is on the left. Upper right is Tylorstown tip. Waste from Tylorstown Colliery including its power station was tipped there. The power station waste was often still hot, often still burning, and smoking giving the tip its nickname 'old smokey'. Taken about 1955.
