Description

May 2024 the Welsh Government funded a project by HDA(Horn Development Association) of Cardiff which exhibited the photographs of Kenyan Photojournalist Mohamed Amin. These were exhibited in the County Library, Barry (Vale of Glamorgan), St John's Centre, Pendre, Brecon and Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre, Newport.
The exhibition is in three parts, African Wildlife, Ethiopia Famine 1984 Onwards and Uganda Expulsion of East African Asians 1972.
Mohamed Amin was the driving force behind the BBC coverage of the Famine (which resulted in BAFTA awards for Mo Amin and BBC Correspondent Michael Beurk). It also led to Bob Geldof and Midge Ure initiating Live Aid. Mp Amin therefore had a direct effect on Britiish and Welsh culture because after we saw those images we became a giving culture recognising the consequences of disasters globally.
