Description

This photograph is included in the Charles Pope collection courtesy of hpcbristol.net (Bristol University). Charles was a Stoker Sailor on board this ship HMS Carlisle at the time this photograph was taken. The ship was sailing to China station and crossed the Equator. The ceremony pictured is a historic tradition in the Royal Navy. He may well be in the photograph. Photographs and documents relating to Charles and his career in the Royal Navy can be viewed on line at the West Wales Veterans Archive. The document remains with the family.
